Who we are

The company is owned and operated by Steve Mondazzi and is located in Tyngsboro, MA, just about 30 miles North West of Boston. Steve's wife Kathy, his son Matthew and daughter Cassandra are his biggest supporters. The real rulers of the house though are their cat Gracie and their black lab Mandy. The family has grown up and lived in the Massachusetts their entire lives.

How it all started

In 2002, we lost our beloved cat "Dusty" to kidney failure. My wife had her since she was a kitten and her death was very difficult for the family. She asked me to make a casket for her so we could keep her close to us. Just a few months later, my mom lost her cat "Pumkin" and she asked me to do the same for him. And not even a year later in 2003, we lost our other cat "Sammy" to cancer and did the same for her. We had looked online for a pet casket but couldn't find anything that we thought was worthy of our pets. So after making the casket for Sammy, my family convinced me to start this business so I could offer these beautiful caskets to other folks that love their pets as much as we do.

So in 2003, I started Pets We Loved and the response since then has been overwhelming. We named the casket lines after the three pets that most inspired us as a way to pay tribute to love they gave us for so long.

I have a good friend, Shawn Duggan, that's a fantastic web designer and is responsible for this great website. I could not have done it without him.

I can't claim we're the biggest supplier of pet memorial products and that's okay with us. What I'm most concerned about is that I have the opportunity to speak with each and every customer, to understand their needs and concerns and to make the most beautiful products I can possibly make to help ease the loss of a beloved pet. We believe choosing a final resting place for your pet should be a personal experience, one that best symbolizes the love and devotion they have given to us for so long.

To provided as many choices as possible, we offer 2 different styles, each in 2 different sizes, 2 different finishes and 7 different linings. Each casket is made from a solid, high quality pine wood we get directly from a local wood mill, finished in a choice of colors and protected with 3 coats of a durable water based gloss coating.

I make each pet casket by hand, from start to finish. Each is built with waterproof adhesives, reinforced seams and come with a preinstalled lid gasket that help resists air and water. Many pet casket companies simply have a separate lid that needs to be screwed on to a base box. Our lids are hinged with two secure latches providing a safe and easier method of securing your pet.

Each pet casket is fully lined in any of the soft padded fabrics we offer. This is not just a blanket or insert like most pet casket companies offer but rather a permanent installed lining with ample padding. The lining alone takes 3 hours to complete. We even add a padded lining to the lid inset for an extra touch.

While each pet casket is built to be a strong, safe place for your beloved pet, it is a natural wood product that will return to the earth over time.
